Small World Adventures bases out of the Luxor hotel in Borja—the nicest hotel in town! We know that a good, comfortable night sleep is important on your kayaking vacation, so we’ve chosen only the best for you. The Luxor has large, spacious rooms with private bathrooms. It has brand new, firm mattresses, good pillows, hot showers, and wifi. There is also a hot tub, steam room, sauna and pool at the hotel. If your muscles are tired after a long day of kayaking, a soak in the hot tub will do you good.
The hotel is located in the small, friendly town of Borja so it is convenient to all the kayaking runs in the Quijos Valley. It’s also an easy walk to the soccer field, the grocery store, the beauty salon, or anything else you may need. If you are looking for some fun interactions with locals, just cruise the town for a while—the folks in Borja are super friendly and will be very entertained if you stop and try to chat with them for a while!
We’ve also rented out the kitchen above the pool where our cooks—Adriana and Franca—will provide you with clean, hearty and healthy meals. They know you need to keep your energy up for 7 straight days of paddling (or 12 days if you are joining our Tour de Oriente), and they work hard to keep you well-fed.
Our boat shed is conveniently located just a few blocks away. We are occupying an old dance hall, so your experience in our boat shed will lack no luxuries—we have chandeliers, ceiling draperies, and bathrooms! There is also and outdoor, covered hanging area where you can hang your gear after each day of kayaking.
While in Tena, we stay at the Los Yutzos hotel located right on the banks of the Pano River. The Yutzos is within easy walking distance of all the “city” amenities that Tena offers such as bars, souvenir shops, ATM machines, local markets, massage therapists, ice cream shops and more! However, the Yutzos is far enough from the city center that it is typically quiet at night.
The hotel also has air conditioner which you may want for your stay in Tena were daytime temperatures are typically in the high-80’s, low 90’s with close to 100% humidity. Los Yutzos hotel is set in a beautiful orchid garden with nice porches and hammocks to relax in after an awesome day on the river. If you find yourself chilling out on one of the patios, make sure to keep an eye on the jungle across the river, we often see Squirrel Monkeys playing over there in the evening. While in Tena, we will eat at local restaurants that we’ve tried and tested for you over the years.
